The Blind Side Gets Oscar Nods, Drew Gets Book’s Author

Michael Lewis

When I took my sports-obsessed, 10-year-old son to see The Blind Side, he loved the story of a rookie football player who made the pros. He was equally impressed when I told him that the book’s author, Michael Lewis, was coming to Drew May 15 to deliver the university’s commencement address.

Lewis’ forthcoming appearance on campus is a good reason to pick up the book, which New Yorker writer Malcolm Gladwell described “as insightful and moving a meditation on class inequality in America as I have ever read.”

A Princeton alumnus who earned a master’s degree from the London School of Economics, Lewis is also the author of Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, now being adapted for the big screen starring Brad Pitt. Lewis’ next book, The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine, which examines the underpinnings of the current economic debacle, is due out in mid-March.

Quite a sizeable reading list to tackle before May 15. Get started now.—Renée Olson, Editor, Drew Magazine
