“This play will break your heart into a million pieces and put it back together again,” says Gigi Naglak C’99, the actress who plays the mother in the new Flashpoint Theatre production of Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake). “It is just so beautiful.”
The play, in which a grieving child daydreams of pop star Timberlake after the death of her father, is the latest production from Flashpoint, which features what Philadelphia Weekly calls the “most original work on a local stage.” Friends and theater arts majors while at Drew, the company’s founders—Derick Loafmann C’01, Erin Lucas C‘01, Gigi Naglak C‘99, Michael Osinski C’01, and Meghann Williams C’02—banded together in 2003 after post-graduation pursuits led them all to the Philadelphia area. Naglak is director of development/dramaturg and an actor, Osinski is producing director, and Williams is artistic administrator/outreach coordinator and director; Loafmann and Lucas have since left for other projects.
If you’re in the Philadelphia area or plan to visit between now and May 8, check them out. Drew’s Philadelphia club is also hosting a special reception at the performance on Friday, April 23.—Samantha Pritchard C’10, Drew Magazine intern
