During Ireland’s Great Famine, donations poured in from tens of thousands of thoughtful souls around the world. Christine Kinealy, an Irish scholar and Drew professor of arts and letters, recently unearthed a notable name in a list of relief fund contributors: a young congressman named Abraham Lincoln. His gift? $10 (about $500 in today’s dollars).
